Getting started: an ITI

A checklist for an ITI: trades and units, seats and admission categories, trade test eligibility, biometric attendance, industry training and scholarships.

General · Getting started · Last checked 2026-10-19

Choose the ITI preset. It changes the words to Trade, Unit and Trainee, uses semesters, and switches on the ITI features. Follow Getting started: a school for the common steps and add these.

Set up

  1. Institute > Institution profile. Apply the ITI preset. Features on: Programmes and years, Seats, State admission process, NCVT numbers, Attendance eligibility, Placements and internships, Scholarships, Biometric import, Pass or fail results. Quotas are off unless you need them. The default group size is 24. Choose the state and board, and switch on features
  2. Institute > State and board. Choose your state and the board NCVT. The state pack shows the ITI admission authority.
  3. Academics > Trades. Add each trade with its duration. A trade-year behaves like a standard, so you get one year for each year of duration. Add the units (batches).
  4. Academics > Rooms and labs. Add workshops and link each to its Trade. Bell schedules, week plans, rooms and labs
  5. Seats. Enter sanctioned seats for each trade and year by admission category (and by quota if you use quotas).

Trainees

  1. Students > Admissions. Admit trainees with the state admission details (CAP number, merit rank, round) and the NCVT registration. Age and entry qualification are checked against the trade.
  2. Students > Documents pending. Keep the required documents complete.

Attendance and exams

  1. Attendance > Daily. Take daily attendance. The profile's Attendance rules hold the trade test eligibility rule (80 percent by default; verify with your authority).
  2. Attendance > Trade test eligibility. See who is eligible. A head can condone absence with a reason.
  3. Attendance > Biometric import. Import the trainee punches from the machine's file.
  4. Exams. Exam components are Practical (pass 60 percent by default) and Theory (40 percent). Results show pass or fail for each component. Check these values with your authority. Enter exam marks

Industry training and money

  1. Students > Industry training. Record on-the-job training or apprenticeship for each trainee.
  2. Fees. Make a structure for each trade-year. Fees > Scholarships holds scholarship applications, decisions and payments. Fee structures and invoices
  3. Staff biometric attendance is separate from trainees. Biometric devices and shifts for staff
  4. Government exports. The NCVT export is under Students > Government exports.
