Institute settings: working days, attendance mode, late fee and more

The preferences of one institution: calendar, attendance mode, late fee, SMS sender and language, menu sections, required documents and approval rules.

Institute · How to · Last checked 2026-10-19

Open Institute > Settings. Settings belong to one institution. Pick the institution in the switcher at the top first. You need to be the institution admin or the principal (or higher) to open the page. A person who can only view cannot save.

Change what you need and press Save. The button shows how many settings are waiting.

Cards for a school or college

  • Calendar: Working days and Saturday is a half day. Attendance and timetables skip the other days.
  • Attendance: Attendance mode. Daily only means one register a day. Daily and every period also lets subject teachers mark each period. See Mark attendance for each period. Alert parents when a student is absent sends a message when a student is marked absent.
  • Fees: the Late fee applied to overdue invoices: Grace days, the amount Per day and a Cap.
  • Communication and locale: the SMS sender ID (six letters registered with the SMS provider) and the Default language.
  • Menu sections: which menu sections show for this institution. The default follows the type of institution. Roles and permissions still apply. Press Reset to default to go back.
  • Required documents: which documents every student should have. Students who miss any appear under Students > Documents pending. Admission is never blocked. The default is birth certificate, Aadhaar and photo.
  • Pay run approval: who may approve a month's pay run. The person who prepared it is the maker and the approver is the checker. Payroll settings link here.
  • Other: keys that have no control of their own, edited as JSON. Only for technical users.

Cards for a hostel

A hostel shows different cards:

  • Roll call alerts to parents: switch on Tell parents when a resident is absent at roll call. Choose how many minutes after curfew to send and whether to hold the message in quiet hours. It is off by default. A parent gets one message for each roll call.
  • Gate passes: how many minutes before the leave time the gate may mark a resident out, a collection code by SMS, whether the shared pass shows the photo and how long a shared link stays open.
  • Office calendar: the days the office works. Staff weekly offs and loss of pay use these.
  • Rent and leaving: the day rent is due, charging the first and last month by days, the notice period and whether the rent is billed on the 1st automatically.

Other things

There is also an AI assistant card and a Support desk card for the limits of each. See The support desk: answer families and staff and The AI data assistant: what it can answer and who sees it.

The pages Institution profile, State and board, Staff logins and Academic years are separate pages in the same menu.

Common questions

I cannot see the page.

It is for the institution admin and the principal. Ask for the permission.
