Classes, divisions and subjects

Set up the standards, the divisions with their class teacher and seats, the subject list and which standard studies which subject.

Academics · How to · Last checked 2026-10-19

These three screens are the base of Academics. Set them up once, then change them each year.

Standards

Open Academics > Standards. Press Add standard.

  1. Type the Name, for example Std 8, and a short Code.
  2. Choose the Stage. For Std 11 and 12 you may also choose a Stream.
  3. The Order decides where it sits in lists.
  4. Tick Board examination class for classes that sit a board exam. This drives exam eligibility.
  5. Press Add standard. The pencil icon changes it later.

Standards are shared by all academic years. Divisions are made for each year. In an ITI or a D.El.Ed college the screen shows years or programmes instead. See Getting started: an ITI.

Divisions

Open Academics > Divisions. The table shows each division with its class teacher, room, how many students and how many of the seats are filled. Use Add division to make one: choose the standard, type the name, the Capacity and the Room.

Row icons let you:

  • open the timetable or the attendance of that division,
  • number the students: everyone gets a new roll number in alphabetical order, with the option Girls first, then boys. Do this at the start of a year, not in the middle, because it replaces the numbers now in use,
  • give the parents logins: a preview counts who would get a login, who already has one, who has no phone number and whose number is used by someone else. You can send a welcome message at the same time. Parents sign in with a code sent to their phone,
  • edit or delete the division.

Divisions of a past year are read only.

Subjects

Open Academics > Subjects. There are two tabs.

  1. Catalogue: press Add subject. Type the name and code, choose the Kind and a Colour. Tick Graded only for subjects with no marks, such as Art or Physical Education.
  2. Offerings by standard: a grid of subjects and standards. Click a cell to cycle it from not offered to compulsory, to optional and back to not offered. Hover a cell to see the maximum marks and the pass mark.

A subject must be offered to a standard before it can be used in the timetable, in homework, in the syllabus or in exams.

Common questions

It is not offered to that standard. Click the cell in Offerings by standard.
