A voucher can be dated only inside a financial year that exists and is open. If you see the message "There is no financial year for this date. Add the year first (Books > Years and locks)", add the year.
Books must be switched on first. See Switch the books on.
Steps
- Open Books > Years and locks.
- In Financial years, type the name in Year (like 2026-27).
- Press Add a year. A message says "Year added".
The year starts and ends on the dates your legal entity uses. The start month is set under Organisation > Legal entities, in Financial year starts in (usually April).
Good to know
- Automatic entries from fees and payroll add the missing year by themselves when the date falls in a new year.
- A year can be in progress, closing or closed. A closed year takes no new vouchers.
- On the same page you can Lock the books up to a date, begin the year-end close and Reopen the year (the owner, with a reason).
Common questions
The Add a year box is missing.
You need the permission to add financial years. Ask the organisation owner.
It says the year overlaps.
An existing year already covers some of those dates. Check the list of years and their dates.
